The original property was demolished in order to rebuild a family home to address the needs of a young family member with disabilities. The garden was leveled, only some existing mature trees remained.
My mission was to design a space that would be a haven for the family to enjoy together with access uninhibited. There are rest areas to provide points of interest and stimulation, as well as different views across and through the garden.
Ramps have been intergrated within garden to help deal with the level changes and are partially hidden by bordering planting. This has created an experience of traveling amongst the plants and has enhanced the sense of journey.
Materials and colours used within the garden were referenced from the newly built family home and help pull the House and Garden together as one unified space. Planting has contemporary elements, but was heavily influenced by the bordering edge of woodland. The helps the garden have a place within the local landscape.
